As a major higher education institution serving the West Texas area, Texas Tech reaches out to its neighbors of all ages. Students in kindergarten through tenth grade participate in EDGE (Encouraging Dreams of Getting an Education), coordinated by the Office of Admissions. Information and attention students receive through EDGE provides encouragement that builds the confidence needed to succeed in high school and college.
CAMPUS VISITS. A variety of fun and educational visit options are available to young students depending on the ages and size of the group. Teachers or group leaders may choose from full- or half-day tours focused on Texas Tech spirit, culture or both. Visits include age-appropriate presentations about preparing for college and tours of interesting sites like the Student Recreation Center, Museum of Texas Tech, National Ranching Heritage Center, KTXT TV Station and more. The Texas Tech Traditions Trek is a scavenger hunt that prompts students to learn about campus landmarks and then seek them out.
SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS. Groups that can’t travel to the campus can request a presentation at their school or group meeting. An EDGE representative can arrange programs addressing the different stages of preparation for college that are appropriate for students or parents. And bilingual and Spanish presentations are available.
To schedule a campus visit or school presentation, please contact Marlene Hernandez at 806.742.1480 or email admissions.outreach@ttu.edu. Tours of Texas Tech facilities must be scheduled 2 to 3 weeks in advance.
