Getting Ready for College

We know that safety & wellness are your top priorities for your student. Texas Tech is a place designed for student success in every area - and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We offer a comprehensive network of support programs to ensure that students achieve success, inside the classroom and out.

Academic Support
Our faculty’s dedicated approach, special departmental services, and student-led study groups help prepare students for academic achievement. Here are links to some of the programs that will familiarize you and your student with the vast academic support services we offer:

New Student Orientation. The mentoring atmosphere beings at New Student Orientation (NSO) before students even start classes. Parents are encouraged to attend NSO with their students to learn about the academic advising process and join in the spirit and traditions of Texas Tech. www.newstudentorientation.ttu.edu

ADVISING CENTER AT TEXAS TECH (ACTT). Provides guidance for students from all backgrounds with diverse educational and life goals. ACTT coordinates three unique programs:

DEPARTMENTAL SUPPORT. Many individual departments have their own programs for academic support, including peer tutoring and organized study groups. Check with an advisor or professor in your student’s department to learn more.

Personal Support
To succeed in college, students need to maintain a healthy physical and emotional lifestyle. We have the services that your student needs to ensure success outside of the classroom.

FITNESS AND WELLNESS. Physical health is a key component to academic success. Exciting programs offered by the Student Recreation Center, Outdoor Pursuits Center, and Recreational Sports keep students active and involved with dozens of fitness classes, 30 different intramural sports, an aquatic center, and adventure trips to destinations such as Big Bend and Taos, New Mexico. www.depts.ttu.edu/recsports

STUDENT COUNSELING. Housed in the new Student Wellness Center, the Student Counseling Center has a staff of licensed psychologists to provide individual, couples, or group counseling to help students address the new challenges and choices they may face in college. www.depts.ttu.edu/scc

STUDENT WELLNESS CENTER. This new facility, completed in the spring of 2007, houses the student clinic, counseling center, and pharmacy. Combining these services in one convenient location ensures that students have easy access to important health and personal support services. www.ttuhsc.edu/studenthealth

CAMPUS SAFETY. Creating a safe environment for our students is an absolute priority.  Safety awareness programs, hosted by campus police and residence hall associations, help students make wise choices regarding personal safety. Services to protect students include an evening shuttle to take students around campus after dark and emergency phones located across campus. www.depts.ttu.edu/studentaffairs/CampusCrime
