Transfer students from two-year colleges or other universities are welcome at Texas Tech. Collaborative programs among campus departments, clear-cut requirements and convenient deadlines encourage a smooth transition. And transfer students are able to utilize many resources even before they apply for admission.

TRANSFER OF CREDIT FROM OTHER COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. The Transfer Evaluation Office determines which courses taken at another institution may be accepted for credit at Texas Tech. The transcript evaluation is based on course content as described in an institution’s catalog, and is conducted in consultation with Texas Tech academic departments to determine the maximum number of credit hours that may be transferred. The Transfer Evaluation Office automatically reviews your transcript once you apply for admission.

The cumulative GPA from all transferable coursework completed is used for admission purposes. When you enroll at Texas Tech, only courses taken and grades received at Texas Tech are used in calculating GPA. You get credit hours for transferable hours, but the grades don’t transfer.

APPLICATION OF TRANSFER WORK TO ACADEMIC PROGRAMS. The academic dean of the college in which a student is enrolled determines which courses will be applied to any specific degree plan. Credit hours will be applied to degree programs and majors when courses are deemed equivalent to the Texas Tech courses that satisfy the same requirement. This determination is made through evaluation of course content as described in an institution’s catalog. A maximum of 66 credit hours from a two-year college may be applied toward degree requirements.

RETROACTIVE DEGREE. Students who transfer from an approved Pathway Partner community college can transfer credits received at Texas Tech back to their former community college to complete a two-year associate’s degree. With an associate’s degree, a you may be eligible to receive an award from the TEXAS Grant program and you'll present a more marketable educational background to potential employers.
